“As We May Think” by Vannevar Bush

In the article “As We May Think” by Vannevar Bush, science is scrutinized to be useful but the ability to be re-read and consulted afterwards is difficult.  Bush then states that future technology could help humans discover a solution to make knowledge more accessible.

Bush theorized many technological advances such as the abacus evolving into the calculator, scanners, projections, dry photography, and the most impressive “memex”.  The “memex” is like desktop computers (memory storages).  They store data and allow them to be retrieved quickly.

I liked how Bush began the article will saying that since the scientists focused on the war so much before, after it ends, they will need other things to focus on.  It’s basically saying that scientific efforts should diverge from war to understanding.  Many scientific discoveries, like automobiles, were ridiculed at first because there was a lack of understanding and acceptance.  Making new technology used to cost so much time, effort, and money.

Vannevar Bush is a genius for thinking of future technology (most of which were fairly accurate).  I also agreed with a lot of ideas he said about how science and technology is a way to improve life in many ways and that information is only useful when one is able to consult it at any given time.
