Fluxus Main

Dick Higgins is a Fluxus artist. That could just be told from his writing. It was a very simple read and, if the reading itself was any indication, that makes it Fluxus. Dick went on to describe how the Fluxus artist came to be. They came from all over the world with mainly the same idea in mind : to keep things simple and "use [things] for [their] own sake."
It was actually pretty interesting to see that something like simplicity was such a big part of this artist movement. I wonder if there is any connection between the minimalist idea and the Fluxus idea. If the Fluxus cared so much about simplicity then I can't see how there wouldn't be a connection. Higgins did go into detail about how a man named La Monte met up with his friend George Maciunas and they created An Anthology. This seemed to me to be one of the major points in Fluxus history. That is because as Higgins continues to write he talks a lot about George and his role in the Fluxus movement. George had to give up his fancy life style to be part of the Fluxus movement. That was actually one of my favorite points that Higgins made in his piece. When he said that Fluxus was basically the opposite of everything that was fancy and expensive. This ties very closely with my own ideals. That meaning that money doesn't have to be made at all times and also that simpler is better, especially with art and ideas.
Later on in the piece, I started to get the idea that George was losing face. It seemed as if he was slowly starting to misunderstand what the whole Fluxus community was about. It was sad to see that he tried to boy-cott or picket another performance just because Fluxus artists were involved and doing something else. However, it did seem as if he slowly started to realize what he was doing. Towards the end of the writing Higgins says that George continued to "[print] Fluxus things - cards and games and ideas..." It was nice to see that he didn't completely forget what Fluxus stood for.
